My 10 year old dog poops and then has bloody diarrhea. What can this be?
Blood in the stool can occasionally occur with any irritation, however it should not be considered normal. If it occurs regularly, it should definitely be evaluated by your regular veterinarian. They will likely want to check a stool sample and perform a good rectal examination to try to determine the problem. Depending on their findings, they may want to refer you to an internal medicine specialist for additional testing such as an ultrasound examination of the abdomen or colonoscopy.
I hope this is helpful and best of luck with your dog.
