Our dog is losing the hair around her eyes. Any suggestions?
There can be many causes of hair loss around the eyes. Demodectic mange can present with alopecia (hair loss) around the eyes. This can be diagnosed by your primary care veterinarian with skin scrapings and/or hair plucks. Dermatophytosis (ringworm) and bacterial pyodermas can also present this way. Atopic dermatitis can lead to periocular alopecia as well. Your primary care veterinarian should be able to guide you through the maze of this syndrome or may wish to refer you to a dermatologist for further testing and treatment options.
