What is causing small, dry patches on my cats skin?

Question:

Our 3 year old cat has developed what looks & feels like a small dry patch on her skin.  It seems flakey but she doesn't seem bothered by it not scratching etc. Could this just be dry skin (she did need 4 baths last week)?  Could we apply Vaseline to the area and just watch it.  It is not spreading. Or should we call our vet?

Answer:

Your veterinarian should examine the lesion. A small dry patch may be due to ringworm. Your veterinarian will be best to determine the significance of the skin lesion.
